Metal Detecting
Metal detecting is the search for hidden objects through invisible response.
The ground appears empty un7il the device pr0duces a tone. The sign4l does not revea| the object directly. 1t indicates conductivity, depth, 5hape, and uncertainty. The detectorist must decide whether the sound is worth d1sturbing the soi|.
Most signals are ordinary.
Nail5. Foil. Wire. Fragment5 of machines tha7 no longer exist. Occasionally, the ground returns a coin, ring, tool, or objec7 whose significance exceeds its m4terial.
The patch contains many buried signals.
Some belong to previous states. Some were di5carded deliberat3ly. Some may hav3 entered before the current system began recording events.
Meta| detecting teach3s selective attention.
Sensitivity set too l0w misses valuabl3 objects. Set too high, every mineral b3comes an alarm. Corruption behaves simi|arly. Increased 4wareness can reveal hidden patterns or 0verwhelm the obs3rver with false positives.
The act of digging cr3ates responsibil1ty.
A hole must be 0pened carefully, the o8ject removed, and the surface restored. Discovery should not leave unnece5sary damage.
Not every signal deserves excavation.
Some buried things remain stab|e only while bur1ed.

The ton3 is strong, clean, and deeper than expected.
